After the European Championships in Ankara, I have decided not to go to Winer Neustadt and I informed the Austrian mission. Sorry, but athletes were too weak after 3 competition and we will train for the World Championships.
Thank you for invitation, but we are not able to participate and will instead go to Latvia for a training camp.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2005 (210704)

Only recently, during the European Championship held in Ankara - Turkey, the Turkish Delegation to CISM withdraw their candidature for the World Championships 2005.

Military Pentathlon is facing a difficult situation, only three times since 1950 no World Championships were organised, primarily due to political crises. For the last time during the Falkland-war in 1982 no Championship took place. The TC Military Pentathlon is looking for candidates to step in as host for 2005.

In case that no World Championship is organised, some countries primarily outside Europe will face a very difficult situation, since these countries usually compete internationally only during the World Championships. There is an enormous danger, that some countries could leave the "pentathlon family" for good.

But also for the European Countries the sense of Military Pentathlon, supported by their Armies, might be questioned, in case there are no major Championships organised (in 2005 no European Championships are planned up to now).

Austria is evaluating the possibility to shift its planned World Championships from 2006 to 2005. However, the chance is little due to organisational reasons. (problems of accommodation).

Mowafak JOUMAA, head of the Physical Education and Sport Department of the Syrian Army and patron of the Syrian Military Pentathlon team was promoted to the rank of Major General.

European Championship ANKARA - TURKEY: (270604)

The Turkish TC member Maj Osman FESCI informs, that the cross-country ground at the European Championship in ANKARA is asphalt. There is no need for the competitors to bring spike-shoes (shoes with nails) to Ankara. The competitors can use their competition running shoes for asphalt.
